In 1977, Rick Cuny was enjoying a few cocktails in Minturn, Colorado when he entered a naming contest for the "Best New Name" for a store in Avon, Colorado. The town was the future ski resort; Beaver Creek was to open in 1980. Rick won the contest and the name was Beaver Liquors. Rick immediately saw the potential to own his own business and purchased the name and location where Beaver Liquors thrives today.
